Daily mantras or affirmations, short sayings of positivity we say to ourselves, may be all you need to change your mood and your body’s chemical makeup. It sounds too simple to be true, but many therapists and psychologists claim observation of large changes in outlook, self esteem, and even our physical bodies when daily affirmations are added to therapy.

Personally, using positive affirmations have helped me to alleviate stress when I am feeling anxious or pressured. For example, as a naturally introverted person, I oftentimes feel stressed prior to presenting or meeting with people. Positive affirmations said to myself help calm that nervous energy and enable more positive energy to flow in my meetings.

I also use a mantra when I experience a difficulty or failure. I say to myself, “And so it goes,” which to me means that the event has passed and is no longer in my control. I shall not focus on it any longer, the past is over, and so it goes by me like a leaf floating down a stream.

Your mantras or affirmations may differ greatly from mine, because mantras are very personalized. Find which ones work for you, and write them down where you can get to them easily. Say one each morning until one resonates with you, and then commit it to memory.

Here are some of my favorites:

Today I am excited about everything.

And so it goes.

That person is just like me. They will go through the cycles of life and die, just like me. They have sadness, fears, and joys, just like me.

Nervousness means I’m taking my decision seriously.

I offer a sincere apology to those who I have offended with my anger or selfishness.

I love my {insert name}, even if they do not understand me completely.

Everyone has a message for you.

This is the path you are supposed to be on.

I forgive myself for my shortcomings and failures.

I am the captain of this ship and I choose where she steers.

I can change the World.

I have enough. I do enough. I am enough.
